A Cruise to remember

A Cruise to remember

In August of 2017, my mother turned 60 and in turning 60 she decided that we would take a family vacation on the Fascination cruise ship to six different islands in the Caribbean. Two of these islands would add something extra because we would be able to see family during the island hops. I need yall to bear with me on this post because it will be almost TWO years by the time this goes up… yall… I know, so I will keep it short.

I had high expectations for the trip because I love spending time with my family and I knew that it would be a good time. I’m happy to report that it was in fact, a good time. We started our trip in San Juan, Puerto Rico and if you know my family the last place we will elect to be is some heavily touristy part of a country, at least not for food lol! From this trip, I tell everyone that my Spanish is great because I was able to order food for myself and my parents and we all got what we wanted. So, a win? Yes.

After Puerto Rico, it was time to get on the Ship. Honestly, I barely have any pictures of the ship because I didn’t really care much for it. Except our waitstaff were the best people and made us look forward to dinner every night.

The six islands we visited were: Puerto Rico, St. Thomas, St. Lucia, Barbados, St. Kitts and St. Maarten.

My favorite of all islands was St. Lucia because it is so green and lush. The temperature was bearable and it's so greeeeen!

St. Thomas made me feel like a kid again. We visited “Gold Corner” and “Silver Corner” all places we would get our jewelry before leaving to go State’s Side. Stopped for patties and chubbies but most importantly we visited my Great Aunt who had the chance to meet her great, great nieces for the first time.

In St. Kitts we also stopped and visited family and got to see our other great aunt. These two islands made me the happiest because they always feel like home. I was able to learn so much more about my family during this trip. My family is HUGE and is spread across so many islands because of this upon returning to Boston, I started to go through our family tree, I started to trace us back and I was able to get pretty far which was more than surprising. I stopped when I felt I couldn’t make it any further but now I think after going through these photos again, I should launch that search again.

I think it is important to mention that majority of these islands were effected by Hurricane Irma and Maria just a few days and weeks after we left our trip.

Below are a few charities who are still working on helping the islands effected by these storms:

All Hands and Hearts - Puerto Rico

All Hands and Hearts - US Virgin Islands
